Rain Gauges

Precision precipitation measurement

A tipping bucket is beautifully simple: rain funnels onto a tiny see-saw that tips at a known volume, and each tip is one count. These are the gauges — tipping-bucket and all-weather weighing — plus the screens and calibration tools behind ALERT and IFLOWS networks nationwide.

Tipping-Bucket Rain Gauge

5050P5054TS top

The standard ALERT sensor: tipping-bucket assembly with 25 ft cable, mounted under the funnel-and-screen top section of a station standpipe. Backed by a lifetime warranty.

  • 1 mm per tip resolution
  • Included in rain and weather stations

All-Weather Precipitation Gauge

5045

Not a tipping bucket at all: a load cell continuously weighs the collected catch, so rain, snow, sleet and hail all register — an antifreeze charge melts frozen precipitation as it lands.

  • 0.01 in resolution; 12, 20 or 30 in capacities
  • Operates −30 to +50 °C on 12 Vdc

Precision Tipping-Bucket Gauge

25002500E heated

A precision tipping bucket with 8 in or 12 in orifice for reference-grade rainfall measurement; the 2500E adds a 120 Vac electric heater to melt snow and ice at cold-season sites.

  • ±2% accuracy at 0–6 in/hr
  • 0.01 in, 0.1 mm or 0.2 mm per tip

National Weather Service Rain Gauge

2501

Built to the NWS tipping-bucket design for networks that must match Weather Service observation standards.

  • ±3% accuracy
  • 0.01 in or 1 mm per tip

Rain Gauge Wind Screen

25262526MK-S mount

Wind blowing across a gauge orifice deflects rain and under-reads catch. A Lexan wind screen restores accuracy at exposed and snowy sites; the mounting kit fits station standpipes.

Precipitation Gauge Calibrator

2595

Drips a known volume at a controlled rate so field crews can verify gauge accuracy during routine maintenance.
