Telemetry & Networking

The radio backbone of your warning system

This page is organized by the job each piece of equipment does in your network: transmit from the field, extend coverage, receive at the base, and upgrade what you already own.

In the field

Data transmitters

The transmitter is the brain of a station: it reads the sensors, logs the data and sends reports by radio. HydroLynx builds two platforms — the difference is whether the office can talk back.

Bi-directional Transmitter

5038850388/A2

Bi-directional: poll the station on demand, change its configuration and operate control outputs (gates, pumps, signs) remotely.

  • Remote polling and supervisory control
  • Inside every 58xx packaged station

Radios for transmitters & repeaters

RTR-MXRTR-LS

Every station needs a radio matched to your licensed frequency. Specify at order time.

  • Maxon 5 W with enclosure — standard
  • Ritron 5 W and 30 W options for longer paths
  • Directional antenna SAM160 for marginal links

Across the terrain

Repeaters & coverage

When field sites can't reach the base station directly, a repeater on high ground relays their reports. HydroLynx repeaters ship as packaged units — and the repeater site can earn its keep by monitoring, too.

At the base

Receivers & decoders

The base station turns radio bursts back into data for your software. For ALERT2 networks the high-data-rate receiver/decoder is the 5052RD-K-H 5052RD-K-H, available desktop or 19-inch rack mount, feeding NovaStar5 5073NS-5, flood-NovaStar5 or your own SCADA system.

Legacy ALERT networks are served by the 50386RD and receiver/decoders, so a mixed fleet can keep operating while you migrate.

Protect your investment

Upgrade legacy ALERT to ALERT2

You don't have to replace working stations to modernize. Field-installable kits bring existing HydroLynx transmitters to the ALERT2 standard.

The upgrade kit

  • ALERT2 firmware upgrade 5096/A2
  • Upgrade kit: encoder, GPS antenna/receiver, lynx386 v2 software 50388/A2-UP

Recommended with it

  • Solar panel for every ALERT2 site 5033-0.6B
  • 22 Ah gel-cell battery 5031-22

What you keep

  • Your standpipes, sensors and site licenses
  • Your radio, if compatible with your ALERT2 plan

Flashing roadway sign systems

For low-water crossings, a 50388-based controller monitors stream level and automatically activates flashing warning signs when water reaches the road — no operator action required. Systems are configured per crossing.
