Evaporation Monitoring
Pan evaporation the NWS way: a Class A stainless-steel pan on a wooden platform, and a float-and-pulley gauge that converts the falling water level into an analog signal a HydroLynx transmitter can report in real time.
Analog output evaporation gauge 3003
A float, pulley and counterweight drive a precision 1000-ohm potentiometer through a gear assembly in a weatherproof housing; the resistance output tracks the water level in the pan, readable on site by a data logger or chart recorder — or remotely through a HydroLynx data transmitter, with 0.0098 in. total system resolution on the 5096 platform. The triangular base carries three leveling screws, and 50 ft of cable with MS connector is included. Datasheet (PDF) →
Class A evaporation pan 3005SS
The standard NWS Class A pan — low-carbon stainless steel, passivated after heliarc welding, with a ½-inch drain plug. 47.5 inches in diameter and 10 inches deep, normally installed on a wooden platform set on the ground in a grassy location. Datasheet (PDF) →
